Sport: Fijian Drua in eye-gouging claims

12:08 pm on 4 October 2017

Fijian Drua backs Eroni Vasiteri and Apisalome Waqatabu will face a judicial hearing tomorrow night after being cited over an alleged eye gouging incident in their heavy defeat away to the Canberra Vikings in the Australian National Rugby Championship.

Canberra hooker Folau Faingaa reported the incident immediately to the on-field referee during the Vikings 66-5 victory over the NRC newcomers.

The Drua have already lost one player to a lengthy ban this season, with hooker Samu Suguturaga suspended for 20 weeks after pleading guilty to a biting charge from their first-round game against Brisbane.

The Fijian side led the competition going into last week's round but have been joined on 15 points by three other clubs after the Vikings ended their three-match winning run.
