The United Nations' Green Climate Fund has approved a multimillion dollar upgrade of the Nauru port.

At its board meeting in Egypt, the fund approved the US$27 million project to help Nauru counter the effects of climate change.
The project involves the Nauru government partnering with the Asian Development Bank to give the port a much-needed upgrade.
Nauru's finance minister David Adeang said when the project is complete, ships will be able to move in and out port much more smoothly than they are currently able.
