The Cook Islands phone company Bluesky says all phones are now reconnected following a destructive fire at its main facility on Rarotonga last week.

Mobile, fixed lines and internet services were down for periods from a few hours to several days, but the manager of Bluesky Cook Islands, Philip Henderson, said services were now restored.

But Mr Henderson said because it was not what he calls a "fully optimised service" the company was not charging for calls or texts.

"Essentially all fixed lines are back in service and all affected broadband connections are back in service. The mobile service itself is still not optimised so people may have problems connecting to mobiles, and vice versa, to fixed networks, but it is predominantly from the mobile network."

Mr Henderson has indicated the company is piggy backing on the system of its associate company in Samoa, and that rebuilding the fire damaged facility will take several weeks.
