Papua New Guinea's focus for the 20 Days of Human Rights Activism was on trying to curb gender based violence and sexual violence.

Both issues are rife in PNG and the co-ordinator of the Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee, Marcia Kalinoe, said the campaign theme is 'Leave No One Behind: Together For Justice'.

The international 20 Days of Human Rights Activism officially begins on 20 August but in PNG events began early with a presentaton during the rugby league World Cup match behind the Kumuls and the USA in Port Moresby on Saturday.

Ms Kalinoe said, together with church and other community groups, they wanted to encourage people to discuss these issues openly and decide what they will do to overcome them.

"A lot of issues happening in our country. At this time it becomes very important that we do not forget that even though there are good things happening, like today we have a game, we also have to think about behaviour change and how we can stop violence happening with out homes as well as within our families."
