PNG slams govt for failure to follow budget procedures

Papua New Guinea's shadow finance minister says the government is not following laws intended to show a transparent budgetary process.

Ian Ling-Stuckey said the budget was due in the first week of November but it hadn't been delivered.

He also said that the Fiscal Responsibility Act the government is required to release a Budget Strategy and it hadn't done so.

Mr Ling Stuckey said the Treasurer had also not even met his own commitment, made last year, to produce an Annual Budget Framework Paper.

He said there was a need for a more coherent process than what is being offered by the current minister, Charles Abel.
