Former Tahiti football boss restates innocence

The former head of Tahiti Football, Reynald Temarii, has rejected suggestions of wrongdoing over the allocation of the Football World Cup.

Last week, French investigators detained him in Papeete in a probe into the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.

In 2015, he was already questioned by police in Tahiti - two weeks after FIFA banned him for eight years over a controversial payment.

Mr Temarii said he hoped the courts would soon, and definitively, rule on the matter.

He said he had been labelled guilty without proof as a result of manipulation involving the media.
