The Fire Service Department of Papua New Guinea is today hosting a parade to mark its 50 years anniversary.

The PNG Fire Service Department was initially with the police force but was separated out 50 years ago by an act of parliament.

The department has been allocated a significant sum this year by the government, mostly to upgrade fire stations and build new ones ahead of the APEC conference late next year.

Papua New Guinea's governor general Sir Bob Dadae was expected to officate at today's ceremony.
