Naming dispute hits French overseas broadcaster

10:29 pm on 3 January 2018

The French overseas public broadcaster has been forced to make a change to its name after a challenge by a Paris television station.

The broadcaster's subsidiaries in New Caledonia, French Polynesia as well as Wallis and Futuna were called Premiere.

However, the station Paris Premiere objected and took France Televisions to court, which found that Paris Premiere had a right to the name.

From now on, the regional stations have to be called La Premiere.
