Samoa's Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, is accusing the careless and poor management of the Tafaigata prison for the continuing cases of inmate escapes.

Tuilaepa said the latest prisoner who escaped this week was able to run away while four officers were on duty.

He has called for the Commissioner of Prisons to do more fitness training for officers so they are able to run and chase escapees.

The prime minister suggested management bring all officers in to do a daily run from Apia to the Tafaigata prison.

Tuilaepa described some of the prison officer's weight as 'like sumo wrestlers' and some need to be retired.

He said they should be replaced with energetic and fit people.

Last month four high profile prisoners escaped and one of them is still at large.
