The Fiji Rugby Union is confident of winning its bid to host a tournament in World Rugby's Sevens Series.

The Fiji Times reported the bid was unveiled last Friday and would be heard at the end of June.

The Union hoped to host the event in October 2019 and had already begun planning an upgrade of Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

The Fiji government would reportedly grant $US5 million to the upgrade if the bid was successful.

The money had been earmarked for temporary seating and raising the field by a metre to overcome drainage issues.
