The preservation and promotion of Pacific languages is a priority for New Zealand's new Minister for Pacific Peoples, Aupito Su'a William Sio.
They're top of the list of the ministry's five-point plan.
Aupito spoke to Dominic Godfrey who started by asking why the official plan is limited to the realm languages of the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau as well as Samoa and Tonga.
