American Samoa police leaving in extraordinary numbers

From , 3:00 pm on 18 August 2016

Reports from American Samoa say a lack of pay is responsible for the extraordinary numbers of police officers currently leaving the force.

As many as 18 officers have left in the past three months when the usual attrition rate is two to three a year.

The territory's Commissioner of Public Safety, Save Liuato Tuitele, says all resignations have to be submitted in writing and while the primary reasons for leaving are not financial, there is some correlation.

Commissioner Save spoke with Dominic Godfrey.
