USP defends action in deactivating student accounts

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Fiji's University of the South Pacific says the university understands the financial pressures on students, but had no choice but to threaten deregistration.

Professor Richard Coll has come under fire for waiting until the end of the semester, and exam period, to make the threat, but he says he wanted to give students every opportunity to pay.

He spoke to Alex Perrottet.
