Fiji elections body allowed to lapse out of existence

With an election looming in Fiji next year, the commission responsible for overseeing preparations has been allowed to lapse out of existence.

The three-year term of the Electoral Commission expired on the 9th of January, and an oversight body was supposed to appoint a new commission by that time.

But that hasn't happened, and opposition parties say that's concerning for Fiji's nascent democracy.
