The Papua New Guinea lawyer representing the deported refugee Loghman Sawari says his client will plead not guilty to the charge of supplying false information for the purpose of obtaining a passport.

Mr Sawari was detained by Australia on Manus Island nearly four years ago, but fled to Fiji last month in fear of his safety after he tried to settle in PNG.

He was deported by Fiji before he could apply for asylum and arrested on his return to PNG two weeks ago.

Yesterday, he was granted bail by the district court in Port Moresby, but his lawyer, Loani Henao, told Ben Robinson Drawbridge Mr Sawari must abide by certain bail conditions.
