American Samoa's long-serving former Congressman, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, has died at the age of 73.

Born in Vailoatai village, Faleomavaega went on to serve as the territory's attorney general and lieutenant governor before being elected to serve in Washington in 1988.

He held that post until he was ousted in the 2014 elections.

Our correspondent in Pago Pago, Fili Sagapolutele, told Jamie Tahana that during his 26 years in congress, he was a strong leader who was committed to American Samoa.
