French Polynesia's pre-eminent journalist Alex du Prel has died after an illness at the age of 73
The founder of Tahiti-Pacifique magazine was widely respected for his independent view on the French territory.
His readers were also numerous in France as he provided, month by month, a succinct analysis of key events.
His voice was also frequently heard on RNZ International over the past 20 years.
Don Wiseman asked RNZ International editor Walter Zweifel, who knew Alex du Prel, about his background.
