From , 4:05 pm on 16 March 2017

Papua New Guinea is struggling to stem the spread of HIV AIDS.

According to the UNAIDS office in PNG, latest statistics estimate that almost 47,000 people are infected with HIV in a country whose population is about 8 million.

Given the constraints facing health services, the actual number of those infected is likely to be higher.
