Solar power project helps families in rural Fiji

From , 6:04 am on 27 March 2017

A solar power project in Fiji is providing electricity to remote households in Viti Levu, which was hardest hit by last year's tropical Cyclone Winston.

The European Union funded project, in collaboration with the Pacific Community, will provide 400 households with solar power by mid-2017.

The Pacific Community says poor access to power is one of the most important obstacles to social and economic development of rural and remote communities.
The project's spokesperson, Martin Chong, told Amelia Langford that this will be the first time some people in rural Fiji have ever had access to electricity.
