ExxonMobil employee held hostage in PNG's Hela province

From , 5:03 am on 6 June 2017

Police in Hela province say they know where to find the tribesmen who took an ExxonMobil employee hostage last Friday. The woman, a scientist, was let go after the police agreed to give in to the men's demand that their kinsman, a local warlord, be released from detention. The police say all the men were carrying homemade firearms and have gone back to their village. The woman was abducted from the vicinity of the Komo airfield, built to service ExxonMobil's Liquefied Natural Gas project in PNG. Hela's police commander Michael Welly told Sally Round the woman was held for about two hours before the police managed to resolve the situation.
