UN alarmed by Australia's Nauru & Manus detention

From , 3:03 pm on 3 July 2017

A UN committee reviewing compliance with the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights says it is alarmed by Australia's punitive approach towards asylum seekers by detaining them offshore.

The UN has previously raised similar concerns, but Amy Frew from the Human Rights Law Centre told Ben Robinson Drawbridge the latest recommendations carry weight.
