Britain refuses to accept its Pacific nuclear testing legacy

The author of a new book on Pacific nuclear testing says he hopes it will shed more light on Britain's little known role in this controversial chapter of the region's history.

US nuclear tests at Bikini in the Marshall Islands and French tests at Murorua and Fangataufa feature regularly in discussions about the environmental and social legacy of Pacific nuclear testing.

But Nic Mclellan told Koroi Hawkins he decided to write the book Grappling with the Bomb because the fallout from Britain's hydrogen bomb tests on Kiritimati Island in what is now Kiribati aren't as well documented.
