Development sector is hoping for more balanced approach

The director of New Zealand's Council for International Development says the country's development sector is hoping for a more balanced approach to aid from the new New Zealand government.

Under the previous National government, the NZAID organisation was folded into the foreign ministry and spending focused more on economic development.

But during the election campaign, Labour pledged to swing the focus back to poverty alleviation.

The director of the council, which is an umbrella group for development NGOs, told Jamie Tahana a return will be welcome.

The NZ Defence Force delivered 800 shelter kits, 800 tarpaulins, 200 mother-and-baby kits and five generators.
