Better access to justice for Tongan women

From , 6:04 am on 8 December 2017

Tonga's Ministry of Justice says a new free legal service planned for Nuku'alofa aims to protect families and help victims of domestic violence to safely move on with their lives.

The Ministry and the Regional Rights Resource Team will be opening a community advice centre in office space near the Magistrates Court early next year to provide legal aid and advice to survivors of family violence.

Tongans will also be able to access the service by phone and from legal advisors travelling to the outer islands on the regular court circuit.

Tonga's Ministry of Justice chief executive Suzana Faletau told Jenny Meyer about the new initiative.
