UPNG compulsory student fees to nearly double.

From , 6:04 am on 21 December 2017

The University of Papua New Guinea has been forced to hike the compulsory fee it charges all students.

The UPNG's media director, James Robins, says the fee increase is needed to meet the escalating costs the university is facing as it tries to cope with increased government charges and pressure to absorb more students.

He also says the government has not been meeting its obligations to the UPNG and the university has been stepping in, but can no longer afford to do so.

Don Wiseman asked Mr Robins about the nature of the compulsory fee increase.
