Pasifika early childhood centres at risk in NZ

From , 5:02 am on 3 April 2018

New Zealand's English-language rules are strangling the country's supply of early childhood teachers who speak Pasifika languages, threatening the future of Pasifika early childhood centres.

Sector leaders say people who have moved to New Zealand from the Pacific are failing to get into teacher training courses because the level of English required for entry since 2011 is too high.

They say a different standard is needed.
