Marsh Narewea said the government should look into improving existing government systems in the country and they don't need to look for solutions abroad.
"We have the solutions for improving systems and process in the government sector so this is an appeal the ICT cluster is pushing for it and we are coming together and I also appeal to all the ICT professionals to join the ICT cluster and PNG Computers Executive so that we can be the voice to the government that yes we have the technology available , we have the skills set , we have the brains in this country to provide those solutions but drive again must from the government to improve the systems and processes and also not to look for solutions outside of PNG"
The government of PNG has been known for spending millions of dollars on systems that can be created by locals at a cheaper price , one failed system is the NID (National Identity) system which they spent over K200 Million or about $100 Aud , Leonard Wanisum an ICT entrepreneur said "
this systems can be designed by locals at a cheaper price.
"NID system cost over K270 - K300 Million , the lands department system got a system and started K8 Million - K46 million over the three years and these systems have been developed based on what we called Microsoft.Net framework and the systems I've developed are based on same technology and non of my software that is the two great software you have seen none of them have ever gone up to a million or half a million , I think we have solutions for these country".
PNG Institute of National Affairs' Director Paul Barker said partnership with government is important.
" Because you know government has its platform ,it has the role and responsibility providing health , education , transport , infrastructure and so on , we have some great platforms mechanisms for improving the management and accountability of financial assets , physical assets as well as the nation's natural resources , biodiversity and so on but also part of the role is to engage with the wider public , to engage with people with different interest and different needs but to enable them to have a platform."
So far PNG-owned ICT companies were able to create a fleet management system to monitor government assets , health education system for the school inspectors and principles and electoral look up system which the people use the app to find names in the common roles during elections.
