Bougainville vote ratification and what it involves - Joe Lera

From , 5:04 am on 28 May 2018

The Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, told parliament last week that he did not want to see the country broken up.

He was speaking about the Bougainville referendum on possible independence in June next year and said he would want to keep the country united.

An MP in his government, Bougainville regional MP Joe Lera, says the comments were inappropriate but he told Don Wiseman Mr O'Neill was talking more about what happens when the PNG parliament considers ratifying the result.
