New Zealand Science On Demand

Released at 10:03 am on 19 September 2007

Radio New Zealand today posted the full back catalogue of audio material from the popular New Zealand science programme 'Our Changing World' on its website.

Our Changing World is a weekly programme covering science, environment and health issues. Over 350 audio items have been made available, dating back to the inception of the programme in September 2005.

The announcement follows an agreement signed earlier this year between Radio New Zealand and Waikato University, which runs the Biotechnology Learning Hub and the Science Learning Hub. These online databases provide specialised access to programme content for teachers and school pupils throughout New Zealand.

Commenting on the new initiative, Radio New Zealand Spoken Features Manager, Paul Bushnell, emphasised the importance of New Zealanders having every opportunity to access Radio New Zealand programming.

"The great thing about this development is that having the full archive of programmes online, and adding new programmes as they are broadcast, makes this material available for everyone on a permanent basis."

"Students and teachers can use the hubs to direct them to particular content, but anyone browsing the Radio New Zealand site can also find all of that content."

The Our Changing World announcement breaks new ground but signals Radio New Zealand's long term objective of making much more programme content available on line.

Radio New Zealand Chief Executive, Peter Cavanagh, says the ultimate goal is to make all Radio New Zealand programme audio available on the website on a permanent basis, with the only exceptions being a limited number of programmes with copyright restrictions.

"Radio New Zealand is leading the way in using web-based technology to allow its listeners to hear their favourite programmes whenever and wherever they want."

Our Changing World

Our Changing World is broadcast on Radio New Zealand National every Thursday night from 9:00pm, during Nights with Bryan Crump. The programme is currently produced and presented by Dacia Herbulock and Amelia Nurse, while Veronika Meduna and Dean Williams take leave.
