Summer Programmes Live In Canterbury

Released at 1:00 pm on 14 January 2009

Radio New Zealand will broadcast two of its flagship shows from Canterbury next week and it'll be the Yin and Yang of summer programming!

Summer Report and Matinee Idle are popular highlights on the Radio New Zealand National summer schedule, introducing a light summer touch to regular morning and afternoon programming. The two shows will broadcast live from the Visitor Centre, Akaroa, on Thursday 22nd January and from Victoria Square in Christchurch on Friday 23rd January.

Summer Report broadcasts from 7 am to 10 am weekday mornings and Matinee Idle provides an eclectic mix from 12.30 pm to 5 pm weekday afternoons.

Summer Report presenters Todd Niall and Rowan Quinn, emphasise that news and entertainment on Radio New Zealand National don't stop just because it's the summer break. There will be something for everyone with three hours of the latest news and current affairs, special features, and some great music.

On the other hand, Matinee Idle is Radio New Zealand's enfant terrible. The show turns five this summer, but don't expect any more maturity - presenters Phil O'Brien and Simon Morris unashamedly promise more of the same.

"Matinee Idle is Radio New Zealand's Mufti Day. They let me and Simon loose in the asylum for 4 weeks. We get to be the guys testing the outer limits of listener patience and we benignly abuse this privilege." says O'Brien.

O'Brien and Simon Morris, his off-sider for the last 2 years, present a Yin-Yang rock and roll pick'n'mix that spans from silly to sublime.

As they say…"that sounds like us".
