Canon Media Awards Recognise RNZ Journalism

RNZ's excellence in journalism was recognised at the Canon Media Awards announced in Auckland on Friday evening.

RNZ has won five Canon Media Awards with the Head of Digital Glen Scanlon picking up the coveted Editorial Executive of the year award.

RNZ CEO Paul Thompson said the Canon Media Awards celebrated the best in New Zealand journalism

'It is great to see our staff recognised in the awards as finalists and winners. RNZ is committed to high quality and credible journalism and these awards are richly deserved.

'It is notable that our staff have been recognised for outstanding work in such things as long form journalism, column writing and art work and graphics. These are new skills that RNZ has developed over the past few years.'

'I'm especially pleased for Glen who has successfully and skilfully led RNZ's digital transformation. He came through in a strong field of finalists for the Editorial Executive of the year.

'It is also great to see Mava Enoka and Toby Morris recognised for their work on The Wireless.'

Aaron Smale, RNZ, Feature writing (long-form) – general
Mava Enoka, The Wireless, Feature writing (short-form) – business and politics
Simon Wilson, Public Address, RNZ and The Spinoff, Opinion writing – business and
politics
Toby Morris, RNZ and The Wireless, Best artworks/graphics
Glen Scanlon, RNZ, Editorial Executive of the year

RNZ's Runners-up were:
Aaron Smale, Mana magazine, North & South, RNZ Feature writer of the year
Nicky Hager, RNZ & TVNZ Panama papers, Best editorial campaign or project
Toby Morris, RNZ and The Wireless, Cartoonist of the year

Success in the Canon Media Awards comes just a week after organisers of the New York
Festival Radio Awards announced that RNZ had a record ten finalists in the prestigious
international competition.

Winners of the New York awards will be announced at a gala dinner in New York on 19th
June.
