Navigation for Extreme Diving in New Zealand

Have you wanted to be at one with the ocean? Could you hold your breath for nine minutes, as long as some of our interviews? What’s it like to dive 121 meters in the ocean (that’s 396 feet, way past safe scuba diving depths) and then resurface on one breath alone? New Zealanders are breaking world records in competitive freediving.

Lynda Chanwai-Earle chats to our world champion freedivers including William Trubridge in Tenerife in the Canary Islands, and Kathryn Nevatt in New Zealand, about sambas, shallow water black-out and freediving in your sleep. Lynda even travels to her first freediving competition at Ohakea Air Base, to don a wetsuit and find out more about this extraordinary sport.
