During Nine to Noon with Kathryn Ryan

She may not be a household name, but Kelly Hogan has proven to be one of the premiere vocalist of the past two decades, both with her work with The Jody Grind and her own solo albums.

Some fans may know of Jody from her other job as backing vocalist for Neko Case. But Jody started out in the late 1980s as the front woman for Atlanta lounge/alt.country band The Jody Grind. That band came to an end after a tragic car crash that killed two bandmembers. Since then, Kelly has sung with the retro Rock*A*Teens, established a solo career and backed Neko Case.

Kelly’s new album, I Like To Keep Myself In Pain, is her first in over a decade. She has surrounded herself with a crack band (Booker T. Jones, James Gadson) and new songs written for her by some of the best songwriters around including M Ward, Andrew Bird, John Wesley Harding and Robyn Hitchcock.
