Hailing from Dunedin, Emma Smith fell into radio through her love of music,  picking up a drive show on bNet station Radio One at 16 years old, before becoming the Programme Director, and later Breakfast Show host.

She picked up a first class honours degree in Linguistics in her downtime at Otago, investigating durational distinctions in New Zealand vowels. This came in handy for her adventures in Latin America and the French Pacific that followed.

For the past three years she has been based in Wellington, working as a producer, reporter, and fill-in host for Music 101 on Radio New Zealand National, covering everything from ancient instruments of Latin America to Punk Fest.
