Tigilau Ness has walked a radical path which has seen him expelled from Mt Albert Grammar, protest the 1970s and 80s Dawn Raids as a Polynesian Panther, and even serve a year’s jail time for opposing the 1981 Springbok Tour.
But throughout the struggle, music and family - he’s Dad to accomplished musician Che Fu - have always prevailed and got him through tough times.
Prior to the release of their new Unity Pacific album Blackbirder Dread, Tigilau sits down with Trevor Reekie and talks about the importance of knowing your roots.
