Dan Charnas has been around hip-hop for decades, as a writer for The Source magazine as well as an employee for Rick Rubin's Def American label. He recently published his first book 'The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop'. It is a classic American story about a business that requires 'the soul of a poet and the instincts of a killer'. But the book is not only about the business of hip-hop. It is equally about how hip-hop changed America. Trevor Reekie talks to author Dan Charnas.
