Luminate Festival on Takaka Hill calls itself an 'earth-friendly festival of music, dance, arts and culture with a focus on environmental sustainability, intentional community, knowledge sharing, creativity and inspiration'.

What does this mean? BYO plate and cup. Wash it yourself. Use the composting toilets. Be prepared to enter a state of unconditional love. DANCE.

Seventy years today, US marines landed in Wellington in what was called a "friendly occupation" by the locals. This was six months after war broke out in the Pacific. They were stationed at camps around the Kapiti Coast and Wellington Regions between 1942 and 1944. (12′04″)

15:23 Southern Story for 14 June 2012 - Luminate Festival

It's a steep climb from Riwaka to the top of Takaka Hill, and an even steeper climb from Golden Bay. But at the top of the hill popularly known as Marble Mountain, is Canaan Downs - a magical spot that's been a site for dance parties for decades. Luminate Festival is not strictly a dance party though - it strives to have minimal environmental impact and build a sense of community through music and knowledge sharing. (11′38″)

Last time London hosted the Games was in 1948, just after the War - there were amazing stories, a Dutch sprinter Fanny Blankers-Koen, 'The Flying Mum' (she was a 30 year old mother of 3) won 4 gold medals.
