The public will have its first chance to see an $11 million earthquake memorial today, after family members of the injured and dead held an emotional private service at the site yesterday evening.

The human face may not be as modern as we think. In fact, our guest thinks that modern humans have kept a lot of primitive features from our distant ancestors. And says Neanderthals were actually more evolved in their own direction than modern humans. Professor Jean-Jacques Hublin, is the Director of the Department of Human Evolution, at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany.

Earlier today at McLean Park in Hawke's Bay a pōwhiri was held welcoming 47 teams and an estimated 20,000 fans to Te Matatini, the biggest kapa haka show on earth. For the next four days the top exponents of Māori performing arts will be on show and so Sarah Johnston has been delving back into the sound archives at Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision for some kapa haka classics from years gone by.
