Mechanical Hand - Mahonri Owen

From Afternoons, 2:20 pm on 16 July 2014

A 25-year-old Hamilton student is harnessing the technology of 3D printing, to create a brain-controlled, electro-mechanical prosthetic hand. He's not doing it for the money but rather hopes that he can help make a difference to people's lives. Mahonri Owen says a top of the line prosthetic hand can cost up to 30 or 40 thousand US dollars, but he estimates his limb may cost as little as five hundred dollars. Mahonri Owen is completing his Masters in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Waikato.
