Flight 232: author and pilot Laurence Gonzales

From Afternoons, 3:09 pm on 2 September 2014

Laurence GonzalesTwenty-five years ago the hydraulics systems aboard a United Airlines Flight from Denver to Chicago failed at 37,000 feet with 296 people on board. Miraculously, the pilot was able to make a crash landing, using only his right hand turns to navigate – 184 people survived.

Author and pilot Laurence Gonzales tells the story of what happened inside the plane, from the cockpit, where pilots struggled to get the plane under control, to the passengers who were certain they would not make it. He talks to survivors who recount how an experience like that changes you forever in his book Flight 232: A story of disaster and survival.
