NZ Retro - The Year 1985
David Lange led the Labour government, introducing a goods and services tax of 10%. The government also floated the New Zealand dollar, but that was after they intervened and devalued the currency by 20%. Also in 1985, the Waitangi tribunal was set up to hear grievances arising from the 1840 treaty. In was a good year for the Netherworld dancing toys, who won best album and best song at the NZ Music Awards.
