As you'll know a 7.5 earthquake struck near Hanmer Springs just after midnight, which has effectively cut off Kaikoura and caused extensive damage to homes, roads and other infrastructure around Marlborough

It was felt across much of the country, particularly in Wellington, where parts of the waterfront and port have been damaged, NCEA and unviersity exams have been disrupted as well, with many Wellington schools closed.

We begin our coverage today in Kaikoura, with local MP, Stuart Smith.
