Waikato University Cuts - Professor Douglas Pratt

From Afternoons, 1:23 pm on 12 April 2017

There's outrage at a proposal from Waikato University to cut its staff from its Arts and Social Sciences Faculty. Seventeen teaching jobs are proposed to go from music, religious studies, political science and public policy, screen and media, history, linguistics and women, gender and labour studies. The university says the cuts are a reflection of declining student numbers. But the faculty's staff dispute that there is a decline.Among the esteemed academics facing a job loss is Professor Douglas Pratt who teaches religious studies and is an international expert on religious extremism. He speaks to Jesse about the impact the job losses would have.
