International Yoga day is today and in New Zealand, if it were considered a sport, would be the biggest one in terms of participation numbers.

Exercise New Zealand chief executive Richard Beddie says that there are around half a million New Zealanders taking part in fitness centres and gyms and the growth of those is being attributed to the increased popularity of yoga. He says over the past ten years there's been a 500 percent recorded growth in yoga related studios and teachers.

Exercise NZ says yoga has grown more than 500 percent in the past 10 years.
