Hurricane Erma forces mandatory evacuations and grows in size

The US and the Caribbean is being battered by Hurricane Irma after it was upgraded to a category five storm making it extremely dangerous.

Winds of up to 290 kilometres an hour have been recorded making it the most powerful storm the Atlantic has seen in over a decade.

The US National hurricane centre has warned that it is too early to predict the path or the effects on the mainland.

To talk more about the storm and what destruction it can cause  NIWA meteorologist Chris Brandolino joins Jesse.
