Harriet Kuru: The "Nanny of kiwi polo"

From Afternoons, 3:07 pm on 24 January 2018

Harriet Kuru has been involved in the sport of polo since she was 18

She's now 61 and is still breeding polo horses in the Opiango Hills in Hawkes Bay, and nurturing young talent, including many polo players from Mongolia - where polo is a very popular sport.

Harriet Kuru speaks to us from her Pōrangahau farm about the sport and how she has been able to mentor young players from all backgrounds.

----

After airing this interview, we receive an email from Sal Vavasour who is raising money to support the Opiango Hills Project, to allow Harriet to continue mentoring and training young polo players, including the two young men she has taken under her wing from the East Cape. Anyone who wishes to help out can contact Sal: salvav@slingshot.co.nz
