Moko the Dolphin

In January 2010 Moko the Dolphin moved to Whakatane. Volunteer"Moko Minders"were appointed by the Council to keep an eye on the friendly dolphin. The idea started in Gisborne when someone was seen harassing Moko. Now, at least one Dolphin Watching tour operator in the Whakatane area has complained to the district council that"Moko Minders"were overstepping their role and ferrying passengers to see Moko.
