Iain Gillies left his small village in the Scottish Highlands more than 50 years ago to play professional soccer in New Zealand. He answered an advertisement for players interested in moving to Gisborne. While he had many opportunities to play for other teams, he chose to stay in Gisborne and put down deep roots.
