Your Place - Edgecumbe

From Afternoons, 1:25 pm on 13 October 2011

This small Bay of Plenty township was named by Captain James Cook in 1769. Actually he named the nearby mountain for his Sergeant of Marines George Edgecumbe. The town did not emerge for more than a century, and when predominantly English settlers arrived, they elected to adopt the same name for their township.
