How to Survive the Titanic: the Sinking of J Bruce Ismay

No one onboard the Titanic on April 15th, 1912 knew more about how precious the seats on the lifeboats would be than J Bruce Ismay. He was heir to the White Star Line shipping company, and Chairman of J P Morgan's International Mercantile Marine Company, the company that bought the White Star Line and with it the Titanic. It was his decision not to "clutter the decks" with lifeboats because, he said, the ship itself is a lifeboat.
